Terrific Kids
is a student recognition program
that promotes character development,
self-esteem, and perseverance.

Bring Up Grades, or BUG
is a program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades to an
acceptable range, and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the
next.
EXTRAORDINARY WORK
Kiwanis, through guidance and example, works
to develop future generations of leaders. Every day, Kiwanians are revitalizing
neighborhoods, organizing youth-sports programs, planting trees, building playgrounds, and
performing countless other projects to help children and communities.
At the District Convention in Fargo, clubs collected and packaged
snacks and personal care items for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over 1250 pounds of
supplies were collected, filling 260 flat rate boxes. Several of the troops wrote and
expressed their gratitude for the project, and it is heartwarming to read their replies.
All District Kiwanians can take pride in the difference we have made in their lives.

Saturday,
January 2, 2010 - Jan Lenz - don't think anyone expected
this news to arrive so quickly, but Jan passed away this
evening around 10pm. She had children and grandchildren
with her since 7:30am today. At around 9:30, most of us left,
but Dan and Gypsy were with her.
Jan's directive stated she wanted to be an organ donor, so the
hospice staff hooked the family up with folks who do that work
(sorry, I do not know the details). Dan reports that after
going through a questionnaire with those people,
they believe that Jan would be an excellent candidate for
donating her corneas.
We do not have any information yet on arrangements,
but we will let you know when we have more information. Thanks
for your expressions of support and love!
Jan's kids are looking for photos of Jan
doing what us Kiwnians do best! If any of you have a few for
Jan's service to be on display... please let Carol know.
Jan has been a member since 1999, Past
Club Director, Hixson Award and Jan also served
as Auction chair.

Dedication at the Zoo
Kiwanis had 7 of the 8 clubs represented

Please give yourselves a pat on the back for the valuable
contribution we have all made to our local zoo. They will use this
table in a lot of their endeavors as well as in their education
about the animals, etc.
I've been proud to get to know you all and appreciate the wonderful
support I’ve received from you in the past years.
In your service, Barb Fisher

Connect through Kiwanis
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to
changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Join Now!
What is a Kiwanian?
Kiwanis Name
The name Kiwanis means we trade or we share our
talents. It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.
Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to
children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry,
mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build
playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or
too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot
accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed,
great things happen!
As Kiwanis clubs and members, we see it everyday!
Membership
- About 8,000 clubs in 96 countries
- More than 260,000 adult members
- Approximately 320,000 youth
Mission
To serve children of the world.
Service
Each year, clubs:
- Sponsor nearly 150,000 service projects.
- Raise more than $107 million.
Global Results
Members and clubs have contributed more than $80 million toward the global elimination of
iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of mental retardation.
Grow our club
Once, someone saw a need in our community and decided a Kiwanis
club could best fill that need. Today, many children are still
waiting for the kind of help Kiwanis members like you provide. The
most effective way to reach those in need is to ensure your club
stays strong, grows larger, and steps up when needed. It takes a
lot of work to make a difference.
Improve our club
Changing the world may start with improving your own club. You can
lead the way to a strong, vibrant club by deepening your members’
connection to the Kiwanis mission and preparing your club for
sustainable growth.
Children around the world have the need, and people right in
your community have the desire. By creating a dynamic Kiwanis
club, you can bring them together. These tools will help get you
started.
Achieve club excellence
To know where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been and
where you are now. The Club
Excellence Tool is a blueprint for identifying strengths you
can build on and opportunities you have for improvement. Test
drive the online version of the
Club Excellence Tool and put it to work remodeling your club.
Plan your club’s success
Establish goals for the year, track club trends, and take steps to
improve the club experience for your members. The Planning
Your Club’s Success brochure includes easy-to-complete forms
to help you outline your strategy.

Recruit new members People are busier than ever, and finding the time to get involved
in community service can be a real challenge. At the same time, thanks to global
communication technology, caring people are more aware than ever before of childrens
needs worldwide.
The ways generous people can give back to their community
have changed from 20 or even 10 years ago. That means the ways we recruit them for Kiwanis
membership must change, too. The tried-and-true methods must expand to embrace the
never-before-attempted and never-thought-of ideas.
Your efforts can and will take Kiwanis to 1 million members
by 2015and help millions more children worldwide.
