Lake Superior Brewing Company began as the dream of Bob Dromeshauser. A scientist suddenly out of a job in the early 1990's, he decided to pursue his growing passion for home brewing instead. Today, Lake Superior Brewing Company remains the only commercial microbrewery in the Northland. Yet despite its evolution, LSB continues to focus on making distinctive, hands-on brews. In fact, every drop of LSB beer – draft or bottled – is brewed by Dale and his small staff.
There is the Special Ale, a pale ail with slight hints of caramel; the Kayak Kolsch, light, crisp made with German hops; the Mesabi Red, a potent, full-bodied brew with firm bitterness and a distinctive touch of dried strawberries in its finish; and finally the Oatmeal Stout, a true four-season stout. It delivers all of the coffee and chocolate complexity you'd expect from the style without the creamy ballast of its Irish cousins. Then they have wonderful seasonal items such as the Split Rock Bock, Windward Wheat, St. Louis Bay IPA, Oktoberfest, and Old Man Winter Warmer.
