Auction – Auction – Auction!!!!

It has finally arrived…Kiwanis TV Auction time!!!  I was out for dinner with some friends and they were asking about the auction, when it was and how they remember watching it as kids with their parents.  They have plans to sit home with their kids and watch it together.  I have the same memories.  I remember how excited my brother and I were when my dad would call in and bid on something.  Not only are we raising money to assist youth in our communities but we are continuing a Northland family tradition.

We have many new members in our club over the past year who have not experienced the auction.  This is our big event for the year and we hope everyone can attend and help with something.  If you are not sure what you want to do just show up on the evening of the 19
th and say hi.  You will find something to do or it will find you!  When Beth and I arrived the first year and saw all the action we were a little surprised at what we saw.   Jane Dolter grabbed us and said, “How would you like to be on the confirmation committee? Great…follow me!”  (She can be very assertive when she wants to be) We worked the entire evening in confirmation which is right next to the kitchen (hint, hint) and had a great time!

Thank you to EVERYONE who has helped out so far!  Every year I am amazed at what a bunch of volunteers can pull off.  If you get a call from Jason, JC, or anyone on the auction committee asking for a little help, please take the time to listen and assist where you can.  Now is when things get crazy and fun!!

Have a great April and I will see you at the auction!!!

Fire Fighter and Police Officer Recognized

The Kiwanis Club of Friendly Duluth recognized the areas finest at a luncheon
this afternoon.  Police Chief Gordon Ramsy along with
Deputy Police Chief, John Beyer presented the Officer of the Year Award to Robert Hakala and Fire Chief John Strongitharm presented the Fire Fighter of the Year to Chad Cooke.  Both men were chosen by their peers to receive this honor.

Both men were surrounded by proud family, peers, and Kiwanians
at the noon meeting.  The Kiwanis Club of Friendly Duluth
has been recognizing the community’s best since 2001.

Fire Department Capt. Chad Cooke asked his father, Doug Cooke, to come to the podium during the award ceremony at the Radisson. Doug Cooke was a Duluth firefighter for 30 years, retiring as a fire equipment operator in 1998.
