THANK YOU!!!!!!  I want to take a moment to thank all Kiwanians for your efforts in the 40

th Annual Kiwanis TV Auction.  A special thank you to Jason Malmstrom for accepting the role of Auction Chair and in turn putting a challenge out to the club.  Jason’s challenge this year was to increase our net proceeds by 10%.  We are still waiting for our final numbers, however, it appears we have a minimum increase of 35 – 40%!   Everyone that assisted with the auction, thank you!!!  We had more kids of all ages participating than we have had in several years, we had more super major auction items then ever, and we had a great time!  Thank you again!!!

As we set our sites to the future, we continue to grow and expand our club.  We have been averaging a new member a month this Kiwanis year.  Please continue to invite your friends and business associates to join us.  It is working!!!!

As many of you have heard, we are also selling the MN PGA Golf Access Cards this year.   These will be an outstanding way for us to generate some additional revenue for the club.  The cards are $49.95 and the Kiwanis Club will profit $20.00 per card sold.   Please look at the following web site to learn more about the card and where it is available.  www.mnpgagolfpartners.com  Thank you for your efforts!

Have a great May and I will see you on Wednesday!

Cyclones, tornadoes, flooding, and earthquakes renew call for disaster-relief funds

Recent extreme weather events and natural disasters throughout the world have caused devastation in many areas. These events have prompted Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis International Foundation to issue a special plea for contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund.

“Kiwanis has received numerous messages of concern for the well-being of those affected by natural disasters,” said Kiwanis International President Dave Curry. “As a result, we are asking people to donate to the Disaster Relief Fund, particularly to help and support children, who have been so tragically affected.”

Working with clubs within the affected areas, Kiwanis will ensure contributions are directed to help children who have the greatest immediate and critical needs.

You can contribute to the relief efforts or send your support to the Kiwanis International Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, 3636 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, Ind., USA 46268.

“Our thoughts are with the countless children suffering because of these disasters,” said Kiwanis International Foundation President Jane Erickson. “We can be the ones to make a difference by helping them when they need it most.”

Scholarships:

The Kiwanis is very proud of it’s long tradition of providing scholarships to area youth.

There are 3 scholarships available each.  Two are from our own Kiwanis Club and are available to qualifying high school seniors from the 3 public schools in town.  They are also available to UMD or CSS students.

The other scholarship is offered to UMD or CSS medical students through the Andrew Reardon Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Requirements and applications are available through the guidance office at the high schools and the Financial Aid office at UMD/CSS, and on our web site; kiwanisduluth.com.
