Can you imagine, Kiwanis
International
goals for 2015/x-tad-bigger>/bigger> is... One Million Members!/x-tad-bigger>/bigger>
How in they expect us to/x-tad-smaller>/smaller> do that? That means that every member/x-tad-smaller>/smaller>
would have to recruit ay least one/x-tad-smaller>/smaller> new member./x-tad-smaller>/smaller> I can live with that. I/x-tad-smaller>/smaller> must
have one friend whom I/x-tad-smaller>/smaller> would like to share the benefits/x-tad-smaller>/smaller> of belonging to a service club/x-tad-smaller>/smaller>
like Kiwanis./x-tad-smaller>/smaller>
What a club we
would have if every member recruited one new member!
HOW? Invite a friend/
prospective member to lunch on a Wednesday as your guest (guest of Kiwanis). Let he or she
see what Kiwanis is all about. Its really that easy. Give it a try!
Last month I forgot
to include in my message one major item that we accomplished...
Our Youth Services
Committee approved, and distributed $26,000.
To youth organizations in the Duluth Area.
This money was earned as a result of last years auction.
The results of that
years auction will exceed that amount.
Many thanks to the many members for the hard work that they put in.

Special Olympics
Saturday May 19, 2007
the annual Area 3 Special Olympics Athletics competition was held in Cloquet, MN. For the
28/x-tad-bigger>/fontfamily>
th/smaller> year the event was
held under the auspices of the local Kiwanis Clubs. Over 300 athletes and coaches from
throughout northeastern Minnesota traveled in for the meet. Despite weather that turned
from reasonable to downright cold as the day progressed, it was a very successful day.
Clubs represented by volunteers included Cloquet Kiwanis, Cloquet Golden K, Spirit Valley
Kiwanis, Port of Duluth Kiwanis and Kiwanis Club of Friendly Duluth. Once again our very
own Fletcher Koos was outstanding as the head of the shot put event. Also many thanks to
Mike Lamminen and his two nephews for their stellar work at the finish line./x-tad-bigger>/fontfamily>
Mark your calendars for 2008. Each year the meet is held on the Saturday between opening
fishing weekend and Memorial Day weekend./x-tad-bigger>/fontfamily>

Kiwanis a constant in
Best Communities for Children
Thirty-four of this years 100 Best Communities
for Children cited Kiwanis as one reason they are outstanding. The list was chosen
by the America's Promice Alliance

To view video, please click on logo above.
Communities were rated on how well they fulfill the
Alliances Five Promises to Children:
- Caring adults
- Safe places
- A healthy start
- Effective education
- Opportunities to help others
An Alliance research report indicated that to succeed in
life, young people must experience at least four of the five. Kiwanis, Key Club, and other
Kiwanis-family groups contribute to all five areas, providing opportunities to serve
others in school and community. Another factor was raising awareness of young
peoples needs, a prime Kiwanis goal.
The frequent references to Kiwanis in the winning
communities applications show our clubs are making a difference for children,
says Kiwanis International President Nelson Tucker. Every Kiwanian can be proud of
this result.
These winning communities demonstrate the power and
potential when leaders from all sectors including the terrific civic leadership from
members of Kiwanis join forces to provide young people with the support and
opportunities that prepare them for success, adds Marguerite Kondracke,
Americas Promise president and CEO.

Through Kiwanis membership, communities are improved, friendships are built,
leadership skills are developed, and business contacts are made. More importantly,
the lives of children around the world are changed for the better.
So please invite a friend to a Wednesday meeting, lets
work on growing our club to 100 members in the year 2007 !!
